#DailyPost: Reincarnation-do you believe in it?

WordWeb dictionary defines reincarnation as the embodiment in a new form (especially the reappearance or a person in another form) or as a second or new birth. According to the Hindu/Buddhist doctrine, a person may be reborn successively into one of five classes of living beings (god or human or animal or hungry ghost or inhabitant of Hell) depending on the person’s own actions.

As a Christian, I don’t believe in this philosophy. What I do know is that when someone accepts Christ into his life, he is born-again.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV).

I rather believe that there’s an afterlife. So as each day passes by, I consciously assess my life using God’s Word to know if I’m in right standing with God such that I would be acknowledged as a ‘good and faithful servant’ if I am called home any moment or I’d hear the dreadful words, “Go away; I don’t know you!”
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Hebrews 9:27 (KJV)

But I think one thing the concepts of reincarnation and afterlife have in common is the caution of living a good life so that you’re assured of where you end up after you pass away. For those believers in reincarnation, such a concept would propel them to lead lives that would qualify them to be reborn in a better state. But for Christians, we are urged to live godly lives so we may spend eternity with Christ.

Apart from the few people who by God’s mercy survived near-death experiences and by their stories saw a glimpse of heaven and hell and thus have a chance to press the refresh button on their lives, most of us have just one chance at life. We hear the Gospel preached wherever we go and the decision lies with us whether we would turn to Christ and leave the old man behind or ignore the message and continue to wallow in our sins.

Till Christ comes or we are called home, whether to choose to follow the Way, the Truth and the Life is a decision we need to make by ourselves. This doesn’t only guarantee us an eternal home with Christ in heaven but we also get to enjoy His bountiful blessings here on earth.
So how I live my life is not motivated by the idea of reincarnation; it is rather inspired by living for the One who died for me so I may live together with Him in eternity.
