Would You Rather #39: Lose Your Keys or Your Cellphone?

Misplacing personal items can be frustrating. And it usually happens when you’re already having a bad day. You want to kick yourself, scream your head out and hope that makes you feel a little better. But it just gets worse.

Most people have spare keys for their houses/apartments and vehicles. So when one is misplaced, you can pick up the spare and use it till you find it again. But imagine losing the keys to your house and having to break down the door whiles the spare key lies comfortably inside the house. This happens when the spare key isn’t placed in a convenient spot-where you could take and use it if you lost the main one.

Losing your cellphone? I’m sure a good number of people have experienced this and trust me, it’s not a feeling you’d like to have just for the fun of it. Most of us have our entire lives on our phones-from emergency contacts, important documents to sensitive personal records. Lose your phone and your life just comes to a standstill. 

Thanks to phones, one doesn’t have to memorize cell numbers or even bank account numbers anymore. The memory on the phone saves the head all that trouble. With the phone, one can interact with thousand others online without necessarily having to make a call. Who has time for internet cafés these days?

You go offline and you feel non-existent and lost to the world. Our lives have been modified to revolve around our phones so much that even a flat battery makes us feel like we are suffocating. Having your phone in the wrong hands could cause a huge mess up when you have sensitive information and passwords stored on your phone. One can secure the phone with various app locks but that doesn’t make one feel any better when people are training themselves to be professional hackers these days.

Who can relate? 🙋

You lose your car key on the day you’re running late for a very important meeting. It sucks but at least you can hop onto a bus or a cab. You lose your house key and you may have to destroy the door lock. If you can’t break it down by yourself and it is very late to find help, you may have to find someone’s place to crash for the night but at least, your belongings are safe. You lose your phone and you lose your voice, your access and it feels like you’ve lost a part of yourself.

I haven’t lost my keys before but I didn’t find losing my phone funny at all. Although I don’t wish to ever lose my keys, I’d rather I lost them instead of my phone.
