When you play with fire, it’s likely you’d get burned;

Heat from fire can give you warmth and keep you comfy;

But too much of it can burn and leave you scarred;

Fire can serve as both a useful tool and a dangerous weapon;

It all depends on how it is handled;

Take control of it and it will be your faithful servant;

Let it take over and it will be a wicked master;

Curiosity will make one want to touch fire;

Consciously steeling himself against the sting;

But no matter how much one prepares himself for it;

 The pain still shocks the body to its core;

It’s the same with testing the waters;

Going to the deeper end knowing very well you can’t swim;

The sense of adventure keeps the adrenaline pumping;

Making you think you can beat the odds;

But when the tides overpower you;

You find yourself drowning;

And yourself alone to blame.

What happens when a helpless romantic

Decides to play friends-with-benefits with a crush?

Thinking she can will herself not to fall in love;

But just play along, keeping her heart under lock and key;

She’ll eventually find out she was merely deceiving herself;

Helplessly in love with someone who’d never love her the same way;

 Having to nurse her open-wounded heart;

Hoping to rewind the timeline to the moment;

When she felt nothing at all;

But there are some things once exposed;

Can’t be un-known or unlearned;

One can only learn lessons and move on;

Attractions can tease our curiosity;

And may soon turn to passion;

And if left unbridled can turn into obsession;

Red flags may wave in the mind ceaselessly;

But that wouldn’t stop us;

Until it has burned us;

Before we advise ourselves and retreat;

We are better off admiring some things and people;

From a distance;

Where we can walk away before we get caught up;

And left to lick our wounds all alone;

Watch what captures your attention;

And ask yourself if it’s healthy;

Before it becomes an obsession;

And control it before it consumes you;

Some things are not worth getting burned for;

Save your heart and life for what truly matters.
