This week, we make a stop at St. Sebastian High School in Santa Barbara, California. The Politician tells the story of an ambitious and wealthy Payton Hobart, who aspires to be the President of the US one day and as such, has carefully crafted his image and calculated his steps from his dream to attend Harvard and getting married to his high school sweetheart. The Politician streams on Netflix.
- Where would you rank it among your favorite shows?
2. From 1-10, how obsessed are you?
I fell in love with the show by the end of the first episode. Couldn’t get enough of the amusement. Would rate myself at 8.
3. How did you discover the show?
I think I watched the trailer on YouTube and made a note to watch it.
4. What was your initial thought of the show and did it change after watching it?
I found the plot to be interesting – to craft a whole show around student politics. Was pretty enlightening to have a sneak peek into a politician’s mindset about things.
5. Why do you like the show?
I like the show because it is very fun to watch. Had a good laugh with each episode.
6. Favorite characters?
Payton Hobart – his ambition is both impressive and frightening.
McAfee Westbrook – good team player
James Sullivan – doesn’t shy away from expressing his opinions
Skye Leighton – tough girl
Hadassah Gold – very funny woman
Infinity Jackson – passionate activist
Georgina Hobart – good mother
Ricardo – funny, funny, funny
7. Least favorite characters?
Astrid – She seemed pretty lost with the whole campaign drive in season one and I found her character rather irrelevant in season two.
Dusty – every manipulative and selfish. No one deserves a granny or aunt like her.
8. Who is your crush on the show?
Payton Hobart! He has such an amazing voice and is a great pianist as well!
9. If you were to be a character, who would you choose?
That’s a tough one.
10. Which of the characters would you like to meet?
Payton, Hadassah, Ricardo
11. What lesson(s) have you learnt from the show?
Ambition is a powerful force. If it is driven by a good cause, there’s hope. If it’s just an empty desire, it could lead one to do things and become someone unrecognizable to oneself. Having a good team who believes in your vision is very key. Disagreements are bound to happen but letting go and moving on is beneficial. Being ethical and moral are both important when measuring one’s intents and actions in politics and in life in general.
