Love Blog Challenge: Heartache

Aches are inevitable.  Be it back aches, muscle cramps, headaches or tummy aches, it affects the whole body. Bodily aches happen when we exert too much energy from the affected parts and the aches warn us to take it easy.

For some aches, it requires adequate rest to make the ache go away. For others, you might have to add some medication for complete relief.

What about the heart though? Like any other organ housed by the body, it suffers its own kind of ache. Of course, not literally in this sense. I’m sure everyone has suffered heartache more than once. How does it happen? Is it when we love too hard for our own good that it meets this fate?

Some people allow the wings of their heart fly wild and free; they are not afraid to love. Some also guard theirs closely and one had to audition and be screened in different tests before gaining access to the heart. No matter where you fall in the spectrum, you are bound to still suffer a heartache.

Why is that? Because regardless of our personality, we are prone to love and care for someone; be it a parent, sibling, friend, colleague etc. And that is already a risk. With no malicious intent, one of your loved ones is likely to hurt your feelings more than once. It could hurt pretty bad…depending on how close you are and personal the offence is.

Ever felt the ache so intense that the heartbeat feels painful? And the tears which fall from your eyes are a reflection of how much the heart is bleeding with pain? No matter how many times it may happen, you never get used to the pain. It hurts like crazy.

But through it all, don’t let heartaches change who you are. Don’t allow it to scar you beyond repair and harden you permanently. Cry when you feel like it and let the pain out. Denying the pain only hurts you more. Forgive and let go and take measures to prevent it from happening again.

Heartache or not, we keep living and loving.

Yes, heartache is an inevitability when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable with the people we love. But we shouldn’t allow pain to stop us from loving fully!
