WBC #26: What these photos mean to me

I’m not a big fan of taking photos so I don’t have many of them. So I’m not going to share photos of myself. I’m rather going to share photos I’ve come across online which spoke volumes to me.

I call this photo the homemaker’s life. When I first saw this photo, I had to pause and study it closely. If you have a mother who is or used to be a stay-at-home mum (popularly called ‘housewife’ in my country), you come from school or work to meet a house in order and you don’t think much of what could have gone into making that happen. Most husbands fail to consider the hard work that goes into keeping a house clean and taking care of the kids. They tend to treat their housewives with less respect because they are not ‘bringing any money home’. This photos profoundly shows all the chores a mother/homemaker has to shoulder on a regular basis. God bless the mother!

This photo is a reminder of the woman I was trained to be and expected to portray. Wesley Girls’ High School is undoubtedly one of the best senior high schools in Ghana and I’m eternally grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to school there and my parents for believing in me enough to support my dream. Teaching me to Live Pure, Speak True, Right Wrong and Follow the King, I can testify of the influence the moral values of the school has had on me.
Also, I thank God for the school because that’s where I met my best friend turned sister. She’s been a huge blessing to me for these past 14 years and something tells me that’s why we ended up in the same class and then happened to read the same courses in the university.

I saved this photo when I saw it on Jackie Perry’s Twitter feed because I felt it was a reminder about who I am as God’s creation and child. There’s a lot of talk about what women are and are not thanks to enlightenment which is all good. But in the end, I have to remind myself that what God expects of me is in His Word and I dare not tell him how I should be. He knows best.

I’m a huge Ronaldo fan and I started watching and appreciating football (soccer) because of him. His determination to not only be but stay the best is something I find very inspiring about him. The debate about who is better between Messi and Ronaldo will never end even after they both retire, I’m sure. Messi is amazing, no doubt. I call him a football god because he makes it look so easy.
This photo from Zedge reminds me that whether you are naturally talented or you’ve worked hard to refine your talent, it is possible to be counted among the great. I say these two are the best footballers of our time and I’m glad to be alive in this time to watch them play.

I’m also a huge Warriors fan…so much that I actually wake up at dawn to pray that they win their games. I love the unselfish way in which they play…it’s not about just one player. It’s all about giving the one who is ‘on fire’ per game the many chances he can get to ensure them a win. You can tell of their different personalities on the court but feel their oneness in play. Although we couldn’t secure a three-peat championship trophy this year, I’m super proud of this team. I love this photo because it reminds me what teamwork can achieve if everyone puts their self-interests aside and work together to achieve a common goal.
