Blogging in Africa

It is often said around that people of this generation don’t like to read. I say, give them something worth reading and watch them rush for it.
Growing up, I was more inclined to reading books and checking sites of Westerners because they were more accessible and easier to read. When I started taking my writing seriously, I used the white culture as my main inspiration. The few African reads I came across were too heavy for me to appreciate.

When I took up blogging, I discovered many amazing blogs and bloggers especially in East Africa. These were not pieces about moving abroad and the hardships of settling in a foreign land where racism is prevalent. These blogs explore life in Africa in the realest terms possible which I find powerful and inspiring. If you are looking for quality content, trust me, you’ll definitely find some.

Anything you want to know about life in Africa has been taken up by bloggers across the continent: fashion, beauty, music, lifestyle, faith, literature, food, tourist sites, current affairs, you name it. I’ve learned a lot about this richly endowed continent from these blogs than I ever did in school. I’m proud of the African blogosphere and how far it has come.

Thanks to social media groups like @Afrobloggers, it is easier to find these diverse bloggers and follow their posts. After sampling a number of African blogs, it has further reiterated the fact that we are all one people not just united by the color of our skin but by our values and love for people, good food and humor among other things.

African bloggers are fun, passionate, blunt and honest about the situation on the ground. We are not nothing like bland…we are actually spicy lol.
