WBC #6: My blogging journey

Why did I start blogging?

Blogging has been one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve had in my young adult life. Not only have I gotten the opportunity to share my writings with people around the world, I’ve also discovered amazing writers and blogs especially in Africa.

I’ve been writing ever since I could form sentences. I have a very wild imagination and so creating a fantasy world to escape into was something I found as a fun, self-indulgent hobby. I used to write stories just to have a record of my imaginations. Then I became a bit bolder and began sharing them with my friends in school.

But when I got into the university, my classes were huge and although my circle of friends was small, the hunger to share my writings was strong. I wanted a space where I could own and post as and when I could but I was in no financial condition to create a website. So, when I discovered blogging, I was ecstatic. I first found Google’s Blogspot but I didn’t really like the sound of it. Then I found WordPress. I was following a poet’s blog (Wendell Brown) and I found an ad about the opportunity to have your own personal blog. It was like an answered prayer!

I’ve enjoyed this journey which I’ve been on for about 8 years now. And it has been a learning curve, I must say. Everything I know how to do on the dashboard now, I learned it over time. I first started posting without photos because I didn’t know how. I had to play around with the dashboard before figuring it out. I took it another couple of years to understand what ‘Featured Image’ is although I’ve been looking for it for years. I’m still learning and I’m glad WordPress makes it easy for self-learners.

I started blogging so you could find me so I could inspire, encourage and entertain you. I hope I’ve been doing a good job so far. I’ve grown and realized that this is more than a hobby; this is more of a ministry for me. I believe God gave me this talent to write to draw people to Himself and to bring Him glory. And I intend to do just that with His help, of course.

How long have you following my blog and what feedback can you offer? Kindly share and thanks for reading.

I think the best part about it for me (since I have a hard time explaining myself) is having everything recorded about how I feel.
