A savior’s suit

He had reached rock bottom
Between the devil and the deep blue sea, they call it
Between a rock and a hard place, they sometimes say
All he was left to do was to throw himself down a cliff
So he could literally reach rock bottom
Just to surrender himself to oblivion
Hoping that this heaven and hell brouhaha was only a myth
People took a little too seriously and passed down to posterity

He regretted it the second his feet left the ground
But it was a little too late for a flip-flop
Out of the blue, a strong hand held him and pulled him back up
At first he was grateful for his life being spared
Then after a while when the panic-stricken heart had calmed down
He grew resentful for denying him the opportunity to end everything once and for all
So what did he do, he turned on his Savior
Who asked you to save me, who said I needed saving?

Fueled by blind grief, he dragged his Savior to court
Suing Him for rescuing him without his consent
The jury was left in shock, wondering why the plaintiff
Was driven by rage instead of being humbled by gratitude
All he could say in his defense was he was his own man with free will
And it was his choice to jump off the cliff
Who did the defendant think he was to act the hero when he didn’t need him to be
But I heard your heart cry out that very second
And so I reached out, the Savior said
I have promised that whoever calls upon My name shall be saved and that’s what I did
That cannot be proved, I did no such thing, he said stubbornly
Whoever denies me before men, I will also deny before my Father in Heaven, He replied
Which heaven, he sneered, knowing he in no way qualified for citizenship
I am the Way; all you have to do is believe

The jury decided that since taking one’s own life was a crime
And so had no right to attempt it even in the face of free will
The plaintiff was to commit to therapy to deal with the morbid tendencies
The defendant was free to go, acquitted of all charges
Before he could slip away in shame, the Savior approached him
Come to Me all you who are heavy laden and I’ll give you rest; my yoke is easy and my burden is light
Why would you offer me rest after trying to hand you over to the gallows?
I’ve loved you with an everlasting love; nothing can separate you from my love

Why would you care about me, a nobody?
Because you were created in My image, after my likeness
How can I stand idly by while you race to your own destruction?
How is that love?
What do I have to do?
Just let go and let Me in
Don’t despair when things get rough as they will
I’ve overcome the world to the end of the age.
