TV Series Tag #34: YOU

Heya! It’s always a pleasure to share my favorite shows with you. Our next stop is in New York into the life of a creepy psychopath. It tells the story of Joe Goldberg, a simple bookstore clerk with a dark past who encounters an aspiring writer called Beck in his shop. He becomes obsessed with her, following her every move and finally gets to date her. But his love life is threatened by other people in her life which he feels are a danger to her and gets rid of them. But was it all worth it? Another must watch show on Netflix.

  1. Where would you rank it among your favorite shows?

I’d place it in my top 40.

2.            From 1-10, how obsessed are you?

I’d rate myself at 7. I found the Joe character unbelievable and his psycho level way above what I’ve ever come across on TV.

3.            How did you discover the show?

I found the trailer on YouTube and upon seeing Penn Badgley who played the character Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl who turned out to be the Gossip girl, I was intrigued. He killed it playing the psycho character.

4.            What was your initial thought of the show and did it change after watching it?

I thought it was interesting…getting into the mind of a psychopath who falls in love and stays obsessed with her throughout the relationship. It got creepier when watching how far he was willing to go to keep it.

5.            Why do you like the show?

It’s very revealing; how we vulnerable we make ourselves by oversharing certain personal details on social media. Also, shows how we overlook certain details when our heads are in the clouds with feelings.

6.            Who’s your favorite character?

Joe Goldberg – he’s creepy but he does know how to dote on a woman. God forbid such a sick man would set his eyes on me!

One thing I liked about him was the fact that he actually cared about his addicted and abused neighbor’s son, Paco. But after killing his mother’s abusive boyfriend in front of him, I have a funny feeling he might have just created a monster out of the little boy following the fact that the boy helped cover up what happened to Beck.

7.            Least favorite character

Peach. I hate myself for saying this but she was intrusive. She tried sabotaging Beck’s writing career and was quite possessive of her. Wasn’t that sad when Joe took her out.

8.            Who is your crush on the show?

Don’t have one. It’s too psycho to catch feelings, honestly.

9.            If you were to be a character, who would you choose?

Not a lot of options to choose from. Not Beck, for sure. Sometimes, I wasn’t sure she knew what she wanted. She was a tragic character in the sense that, she had the chance to break things off with Joe and she lured him back to her own fatal end. Peach was annoying just like her other two friends. Maybe Karen…she was nice.

10.          Favorite season

I’ve just watched the first season. The second one which is yet to come out. It was a show worth watching.

11.          Do you follow the cast and show on Facebook and Twitter?

I follow the show on Facebook.

12.          Which of the characters would you like to meet?

Joe and Beck.

13.          If you could meet any of the actors, who would it be?

Penn Badgley.

14.          What lesson(s) have you learnt from the show?

If something feels too good to be true, it’s most likely not good at all. We should be more cautious of people who happen to be at the right place at the right time all the time. If your gut tells you something is off, it probably is. Love should set you free; if it suffocates you, then it isn’t love, it’s obsession. Sometimes, it’s better to let go of the past and not run back to it. Who knows, it could be a huge bullet you dodged.

Thanks for your honesty critiquing YOU. I saw it pop up on Netflix, but honestly, and without watching it, suspected it would be a thriller I’d skip for now. I have to be in a mood to watch certain series. From what you’ve shared, I’m impressed by the “learning” that can come from a watch though. It’s not just psychopathic meanderings with little or no substance.

    Happy New Year!

Watched it with my sisters towards the end of last year, and we’re praying such obsession doesn’t exist in the real world. 🙌
