TV Series Tag #32: Elite

Hola, we are headed next to España! Elite tells the story of three working class students Samuel, Nadia and Christian who were given scholarships to study at Las Encinas, the most exclusive private school in Spain and how their efforts to fit in ended in…murder. Nano, Samuel’s big brother who is out in prison gets intertwined in the lifestyle and resentments and it all ends up in tragedy.

So, it’s like the Spanish attempt of ‘Gossip Girl’ laced with ‘How to get away with murder’. It is a thrilling show to watch as each episode added more detail to the big picture painted after the first one and getting drawn in till the final episode.

Though one has no choice but to read the subtitles to understand, it is really fun to watch.

1. Where would you rank it among your favorite shows?

Top 30. I’ve a lot of favorites now lol.

2. From 1-10, how obsessed are you?

I would rate myself at 8. When I finished episode 1, I knew I was in for a ride and I couldn’t wait to get to the end. It’s sad that the first season had only eight episodes.

3. How did you discover the show?

My dear friend and vlogger Aphua Larbi recommended it for me. She’s never wrong (almost).

4. What was your initial thought of the show and did it change after watching it?

I had some negative impressions about Guzman that he was a controlling jerk to his sister Marina and his friends. But as the story unfolded, I realized he was actually a very caring friend. He always looked out for his friends not to be involved with drugs because of what had happened to Marina.

I also thought Marina was a nice girl but halfway through the season, I got disappointed with her actions (any girl who sleeps with two brothers is messed up, methinks) and at a point thought that she deserved what happened to her. My initial impressions about the central characters changed by the end of the season.

  5.  Why do you like the show?

The story line was relatable…not so far-fetched. Watching the spoiled kids engage in all sorts of activities because they knew they could get away with them and the tension that exists between social classes…yeah, I get it.

  6. Who’s your favorite character?

Samuel. He is a sweet boy. I kind of liked Nano, his brother as well. Although going for his brother’s girl was a low blow, I realized he deeply cared for Marina.

  7. Least favorite character?

Polo! He doesn’t seem to know what he wants. And he’s manipulative; using his parents’ influence to lure Christian into making out with him…that’s low.

  8. Who is your crush on the show?

Samuel…maybe Guzman? He was so kind to Nadia!

  9. If you were to be a character, who would you choose?

Nadia…aside the fact that her character was Muslim, I liked that she was principled and stood by her values.

10.    Favorite season

This is the first one which I absolutely enjoyed. Can’t wait for season 2.

Wow…forgot to. Just followed the show on Facebook.

12. Which of the characters would you like to meet?

All of them – Marina, Samuel, Guzman, Lucrecia, Nadia, Omar, Polo, Nano, Ander, Christian and Carla.

13. What lesson(s) have you learnt from the show?

Don’t double date brothers! It’s a disaster waiting to happen! We shouldn’t be overly dependent on our family fortunes and live loosely. The tables can turn at any time. Blackmail is never a good idea. It can also backfire at any time.  You should stand for what you believe in and people will respect you – they might mock you at first but you will definitely earn their respect.
