Just A Little Lie

Lies. Everyone tells them. Whether we call it a half-truth or a white lie, it all boils down to the same thing.
A man telling his wife he’d be late because something urgent came up in the night (in the arms of another woman);
A woman telling her husband the cheque was a gift from her parents to them (when it was the boss she had been flirting with who signed it);
A young girl telling her parents she’s going for a group study (with party clothes in her backpack);
A young guy telling his parents that his allowance got stolen (though he lost it all in a senseless gambling game);
A young lady claiming the bruise on her face was a result of hitting her head against a surface (when it was her boyfriend who had hit her);

The instances are endless. And we are all guilty of it. Lying is in a way a universal sin because no matter who and where you are, you’ve found yourself lying before unlike the others like committing murder. We sometimes tell ourselves the lie is to protect the ones we love but the hurt it causes them is unimaginable.

And when we are caught in one, we think just saying ‘sorry’ should cut it. But it doesn’t even begin to repair the damage the ‘little’ lie might have caused.

Dishonesty leads to mistrust and it is a long way trying to regain someone’s trust when it’s lost. Someone gives you a second chance after you’ve been dishonest and then you do it again. And again and again. Then you find out too late that you’ve lost the person forever.

We tell a lie and we tell God we are sorry. Then we do it again and apologize. The cycle never seems to end. Aren’t we tired of always asking for forgiveness for the same things every time we come to Him in prayer? We might not run out of second chances with God you wouldn’t want to lose the confidence God has in you because

the aim of seeking forgiveness isn’t to get a clean slate and then get yourself messed up again.

Marriages have broken, friendships destroyed, companies derailed just because someone thought he was being smart. Lies like a spider’s web might sound fun when you think you’ve got it all figured out and that no one would ever find out but before you know it, you are so entangled, you can’t get out.

Let’s have a lie-free day today, shall we?

      Awwww…..thank you so much, Gyslaine! I really appreciate it. God bless you so much. I’m so touched!

  3. That’s right Josey, don’t we get weary of saying I’m Sorry ! My grandmother used to say, “I don’t want to hear that pathetic Excuse [I sorry] for true repentance, and don’t give it to God!” Repentance isn’t a game. Just as Christ’s giving up his life for us, that was no game!

    I agree, nowadays people who tell lies are called ‘smart’ I wonder when this kind of thing started to seem likeable!? It is all fun and games until the ‘smart’ person becomes the victim. But even then, the victim revenges and the cycle continues. Its so sad!
