Would You Rather #104: Be the life of the party or the funniest person your friends know but suffer from depression or be happy and content but people think you are boring and unfunny?

We all have that one friend or couple of friends whose mere presence can turn any meetup into a party. They are lively, have pocketful of jokes to share and just fun to hang out with. We almost always see the lighter side of them that we sometimes forget to find out how they are really doing. We erroneously assume they are fine because they always look it.

But as long as they are human and face life’s uncertainties, some incidents would definitely get to them and could lead to depression if they find them overwhelming. And because they are known to be the ones who light up wherever they go, they sometimes find it difficult coming out to their friends about what could be bothering them.

Quiet people are usually regarded as boring. I know this for sure because I’ve been called that countless times. Most people consider having fun as doing things the ‘loud and public way’. In their book, it is only fun if you are out clubbing, going to the movies and being around a lot of people. However, fun is subjective. Some people are pros at having fun all by themselves.

Sometimes, we tend to think that if the people around us are happy, then it would boost our own moods. But it doesn’t always work. One can be all over the place cheering everyone up but the moment the place clears out, one feels the weight of depression on him with no one to open up to.

At the end, your personal happiness is what counts. What people label you fades in comparison to the value of self-satisfaction. Not everyone can be the ‘life of the party’. As much as it’s important to socialize with others, I don’t think it’s necessary to go out of your way to do things so people can give you a tag you find pleasant. We are all unique and people who claim to love us should respect us for our uniqueness.

Depression is a silent killer and no one should think he/she can deal with it by him/herself. People may not know this but extroverts are not immune to depression so after having all the fun, do take time to find out how they are really faring.

That being said, I’d rather be happy and content with myself and considered boring and unfunny by others. I can have fun solo!

What about you? Which one would you rather be and why? Share your thoughts and thanks for reading.

Happy New Year to you! If you have already filled out my survey, thank you very much and if you haven’t yet, kindly do so. Thanks for your support.

  1. I think I’m like you, I’d rather be content too. Too much attention stresses me out and makes me anxious. Great read!

Nice one Josephine. As for me I rather be an extrovert. My sister sure is one and she’s been loved by all. Extroverts are always fun to be with at least it’s better than by boring self. Happy blissful new year dear

I’m probably with you on this; internal happiness is more important than what other people think of you. Also I just took the survey 🙂

Happy and Content and just be myself. Everybody has their own opinion about the other person. I would rather just be me….all day long!

This is so accurate. I also experienced this. I would rather choose happy and content even tho my friends would think me boring. I mean it’s good to see yourself happy without others, its a happiness that lasts forever.

Thumbs up for this blog. Very relatable. Please check my blog too.

  6. I’d rather be happy and content with myself even if friends think I’m boring. I think that is the most important thing of all. But unfortunately, even though I wish I could be so, I am still the first.
