Three is greater than one, right? But is it always the case? Which is more important, the present or the future? What is our hope for tomorrow if we don’t take care of today’s needs? Must we always mind tomorrow when living today? What about living in the moment?
They say, if wishes were horses, beggars would be riders. Let’s just imagine it’s Christmas and Santa is asking for and granting wishes, okay? Now, there are two choices: one for today or three in 10 years?
It’s a tough one: three is greater than one, our math teachers tell us but sometimes, one big one is greater than three small ones. So what is it going to be?
I think it’s subjective; it depends on which point in life everyone finds himself/herself. If you are fairly comfortable with how your life is faring at the moment, you might decide to trade one today for three tomorrow. One can choose to forego a new car now with the hope of getting a promotion at work which comes with a better car.
But for someone, he needs a miracle TODAY. He has no care for tomorrow if his prayers go unanswered today. If he is to get his wish granted today, his whole life is going to change for the better which may include the other three wishes he is to get in 10 years. For some, it could be a child, a job, recovery from an illness or a life partner. What is a car to someone who needs a baby?
We all wish for something. Some remain fantasies; others become the driving force to get us working harder to realize our greatest potentials. It’s personal; it’s subjective.
So if someone is offering you something you’ve really been wishing for on a platter, take a minute to reflect on what you are getting and what you might be giving up for it. Do you really need it now or can it wait? On the flipside, what else do we have apart from today? Ten years isn’t guaranteed for anyone. What is the point of giving up one good thing today for three good things which you might not live to enjoy? It’s all about choices.
Personally, I think I’ll choose three in ten years today. But who knows, my answer could change tomorrow.
What about you? Which choice would you rather make and why? Kindly share your thoughts and thanks for reading.
