If you haven’t watched the show, the title may paint a different picture in your head. The show tells the story of a brilliant OB/GYN called Dr. Masters and his research assistant, Virginia Johnson who decided to start an unprecedented experiment into the physiological changes in the body during sex as well exploring solutions to various sexual dysfunctions. The professional lines were blurred along the line and the masterminds of the experiment end up becoming participants. It is based on Thomas Maier’s book of the same name. The main characters reflect the lives of one Dr. Masters and Virginia Johnson some years ago.
1. Where would you rank the show on your favorites’ list?
2. From 1-10, how obsessed are you?
Because I binge-watched the seasons, I didn’t get to be ‘obsessed’ with it. But during those times, I couldn’t stop talking with my brother about it. We just couldn’t get enough of Masters’ distinct and awkward behavior!
3. How did you discover the show?
My brother…who else?
4. What was your initial thought of the show and did it change after watching it?
It was different in times of concept and setting. Masters’ out of touch feelings with his wife, Libby and yet his fascination with the free-spirited Virginia was intriguing.
5. Why do you like the show?
The uniqueness of the show. I’ve watched several shows and most plots are cliché but the characters of this show were crazy in their own way and I found that interesting.
6. Who is your favorite character in the show?
Dr. Masters! He was such a character! How he seemed like a stranger to his son and yet be emotionally vulnerable with Virginia and her daughter still beats me. And when he was in the ‘I’m-not-talking-to-you’ mode, he does it better than any woman!
7. Least favorite character in the show?
That lady who came in as Masters’ assistant in season 3 and framed him in the end! I knew she was fishy from the very beginning.
8. How would you kill off your favorite character?
I have no idea.
9. Who is your crush on the show?
Don’t think I have one.
10. If you were to be a character, who would you choose?
I’d say, Betty, Masters’ front desk manager. She was one reliable person who held the fort for his facility when things were falling apart between Masters and Virginia.
11. Favorite season
I enjoyed every season. Finding out that one could get ‘temporary impotence’ after realizing his mistress was having an affair with someone else was an eye-opener. What about the wife he had been cheating on all this while? Smh.
12. Any other characters you found interesting?
Definitely! The couple who served as Masters’ and Virginia’s assistants in season 4. How on earth can a wife abort a baby without the husband’s consent just so when the time comes that she wants to leave, there wouldn’t be no strings attached?! What kind of an exit strategy was that? Totally heartless, I must say.
13. Do you follow the cast on Twitter?
14. Which of the characters would you like to meet?
Dr. Masters and Virginia.
15. If you could meet any of the actors, who would it be?
The actors who played the two main characters.
16. What lesson(s) have you learnt from the show?
A marriage can only work when both partners are equally committed to it. Someone else would always look like a better alternative because they are probably doing something better than what your partner is doing. Couples should be open with each other; don’t seal off your feelings and fears from each other or else you would fall into the temptation of opening to someone else and before you know it, you are sharing a bed.
Have you watched the show? What do you think about it? Would love to read your thoughts!
