TV Series Tag #7: Gang Related

This is one of the best action drama series I’ve ever watched and was so sad that it got canceled after the first season. It tells the story of one Ryan Lopez who was taken in and taken care of by the Acostas and the Los Angelicos drug fraternity after his parents died. To protect them, he went undercover as a member of the LAPD and would act as double agent, feeding the Acostas with inside information and tipping them off whenever the police was on their tail. It is a story of personal conflict and loyalty.

As it is put, ‘every villain has a noble cause and every hero has a dark side…

With my two favorites 24 and Prison Break being brought back to our screens, I’m hopeful that Gang Related would be too soon. It is a must watch show.

  1. Where would you rank it among your favorites’ list?

Top 20.

  1. From 1-10, how obsessed are you?

Since it lasted for just one season and I binge watched it, there was nothing to be obsessed about. But it got me all edgy and in suspense throughout. One of the best plots ever created.

  1. How did you discover the show?

My one and only supplier: my brother.

  1. What was your initial thought of the show and did it change after watching it?

I found it intriguing and my interest continued to grow with each episode.

  1. Why do you like the show?

I loved the show for its straightforwardness. It didn’t waste any scenes on subplots which added no value to the main story. And I must say, it is the only drug related show I’ve watched which has no single foul language uttered or nudity shown. I was so impressed! Who said, one had to diffuse f-bombs everywhere to prove that he’s a gangster? The writer concentrated on developing the plot and he did it so well!

  1. Who was your favorite character in the show?

It would be Javier Acosta. He was such an affectionate family man and a fearful drug lord. You underestimate him to your own peril. A very strong character.

  1. Least favorite character in the show

Jessica Chapel. She was such a distraction to Ryan. Although the way she was killed was sad, a part of me was relieved that she was out of the picture.

  1. How would you kill off your favorite character?

That’s very difficult to answer. It would be quite a scene if Javier is to be killed by Ryan or vice versa as they share a quasi-father-son relationship.

  1. Who was your crush on the show?

Javier Acosta because he seemed to have everything under control.

  1. If you were to be a character, who would you choose?

Perhaps Vee. She was bold enough to join the task force to combat the drug fraternities causing havoc in town.

  1. Favorite season.

It’s just one and I totally loved it.

  1. Do you follow the cast/show on Twitter or Facebook?

No, I don’t.

  1. Which of the characters would you like to meet?

Carlos Acosta. He was quite interesting with his temper. And I loved Matias though his appearance was brief. The way he held his sledgehammer was terribly scary!

  1. If you could meet any of the actors, who would it be?

Cliff Curtis who played Javier Acosta.

  1. What lesson(s) have you learnt from the show?

One cannot serve two masters. There might be a reason why you find yourself having a foot in both worlds but it would definitely get to a point where you have to choose or risk being caught.

Anyone who enjoys a well-told story should watch Gang Related. And you don’t have to worry about bad language or X-rated scenes. Your mind and soul are totally safe. I’m totally for #BringBackGangRelatedNow! Have you watched it? How did you find it? Kindly share your thoughts.
