Would You Rather #56: Live on top of an Apartment Building in the city or a Mountain top?

There are pros and cons of living in the city, suburb or countryside depending on your lifestyle. The busyness of city life, car honking and traffic everywhere, malls and concerts lighting up the night contrasted with the serene atmosphere at the outskirts where the words of a couples’ fight could be heard clearly meters away.

The city is usually characterized for the go-getters, the happy-go-lucky and the nocturnal. Always alive and on the move. Hate the traffic but can’t deny the fact that you get to admire the cars in line waiting for the lights to turn green. Hate the congestion but love that few people know you so you live life caring less about what others think. You want to keep your place in the city? You don’t just survive, you have to thrive.

Living on the mountains sounds very relaxing and stress-free from the noise and fumes that modern civilization brings. For those really particular about fresh air and privacy, the mountain top would sound like paradise to them.

I think it would be nice to live at the top of a tall apartment building in the city where you get to see the whole city from your window. The view would be incredible. Be it Accra, Lagos, New York, Paris, or New Delhi, the view must be fascinating to watch. And having to use the elevator to get to your apartment kind of gives off a deluxe feeling. But if airplanes fly over your roof every day, the sound could get pretty irritating. But hey, it’s the city, right? The hustle makes the life the more worth living.

I love my peace and quiet and I think living on a mountain top would do me just fine. It would be great for some writing retreat or some vacation from one’s normal life. Not a lot of neighbors to poke their noses into your business and a lot of opportunity to connect with nature for inspiration and comfort.

I love the city because of the sense of purpose that is drummed into you with each alarm that wakes you up and the urge to keep on going before you go to bed. And I love the idea of the mountain top because of the promise of serenity, privacy and rest.

I’d love to have both. Live in the city to build my life and escape to the mountain top for some needed retreat. But as a permanent residence, city for sure.
