Open Letter #11: To God, My Heavenly Father

Hello Daddy,

It’s me again. I know I’ve already knocked on your door to greet you when I woke up this morning. But in the spirit of celebrating a new month, I want to write you a personal heartfelt letter. I just thought of asking you how last night went but then I remembered, you never sleep. You keep watch over me day and night. Who can ever beat that?

For being with me right from my mother’s womb up till now, I want say a very big thank you. Honestly, all the words in the world fall short at how I want to express my gratitude for your never-ending love and care. Why you would love a deeply flawed person like me in the unconditional way that you do baffles me. Because sometimes I don’t even like myself. But you in all your holiness, still find me deserving of your love. The awe of your love is what keeps me going when the going gets tough.

You’re the only one who knows me, the true me, all about me. My deepest fears, concerns and struggles, you are very aware of each one of them. That is why I am not ashamed to bare my soul out to you at my lowest moments and not dismissive to give you all the credit during the happy times.

For the family you blessed me with, raised in the part of the world where I find myself, I couldn’t be more grateful. For all the human flaws that could plague a society, one thing that stands out is the peace that you’ve showered my country with. For guarding the borders when the deadly Ebola virus broke out such that not even one person got infected and died, is one favor that I’d never forget.

I know I hurt you sometimes with my words, actions and thoughts. For occasionally doubting that you hear me when I pray, for speaking in despair thinking you’ve let me down and refusing to appreciate you for the daily blessings you shower on me, I am very sorry. For forgiving me over and over again each time I come to you begging for pardon, I owe you my absolute reverence.

You’ve been with me through thick and thin, through the shadows and the valleys, the tunnels and the storm. Every high and low moment with you by my side has made me better and stronger. How I wish all would come to know you the way I do!

For the friends you blessed me with; the ones who left and those who stayed, thank you. You used them to nurture and support me throughout my life’s journey. Even for the unpleasant people I’ve met so far, I’m grateful. I’ve learnt a lot from them as well.

If I were to start counting my blessings, they would outrun the number of years I’ve been on earth. I know how much I mean to you; for sending your Son to die on the cross for me so I wouldn’t be lost is one sacrifice no one else would make for me. You know that from the bottom of my heart, you mean everything to me and that is why I have vowed to live for you with everything I am and have. I might falter once in a while but you know my heart. The love that we share is incomparable.

We’ll talk some more tonight. I know you are ever ready to listen. Help me hear you when you speak to me and grant me what the courage to do what you ask of me. Have I mentioned how much I love you?

I love you beyond words, tears and laughter. The first, true, one and only love of my life. Receive my kisses of praise and thanksgiving from my heart of hearts.

Your daughter and friend

Jo.

  5. I have been in the School of the Master who taught His disciples in Matthews 5 how to pray, and He has revealed to me that prayer is a mystery, not nothing about words one recites.
This is the way the Master has taught me how to pray: Heavenly Father, I commit these words to You, and may You water it day and night in my heart … not the way they were framed and put together, but as a little boy in the Kingdom, I will just say my ABC’s … Well, I don’t know how to pray. All I know is that God who reads in the contrite heart, is able to pick out the words, the letters, and form the word… God, that’s the way I present it to You. I can’t speak very much, but, God, I just… I know that You can pick it out my broken words and understand just the way I meant it.
That is it my beloved bros and sis, because the Master said Receive the Kingdom like little children. God is hidden in simplicity. Sometimes, we pray and it touches the hearts of people, without it touch the heart of God. Haven’t you read in Isaiah where He says When you pray, I turn my back to you? Simply because the approach is not right… Look at this one: in the Gospel, the Syrophenician woman following the Master and approaching wrongly, using His title of Son of David, Jesus never answered her, because she was a Gentile, not a Jew, to approach Him in that manner … but when she approached Him, using His title of Lord, He straight away turned around to answer her prayer!!! Think over. Hope this helps

      1. I believe you Joseyphina. I just read on your profile your dream to be a screenwriter someday. Keep it alive. I had such dreams and some years on they came alive. And they keep evolving. It has been such a wonderful experience cos writers just like women are God’s partners in creation. All the best….
