With my abilities and limitations in mind, I knew straightaway what I would rather do when I came across this question. I know the average lady would choose sowing clothes without thinking twice because well, it’s clothes. And it’s a cool thing to do, if you are creative enough to think up super fabulous designs. But if you are ‘stylishly challenged’ like I am, I doubt that would appeal much to you.
I’ve never been a big fan of sewing. The mere fact that I find threading a needle a very exhausting chore just puts me off the activity. Even with my glasses on, I just can’t do it unless it’s the biggest needle one can find. But even with that one, it wouldn’t be easy. Maybe it’s also because I don’t have steady fingers. No amount of concentration gives me a bailout.
And I can’t seem to cut through a long stretch of wrapper without deviating from the straight line a bit. Let’s suffice it to say, my hands are not gifted with such handcrafts. But I thank God, I can write straight with them! No wonder I swerved sowing class for catering back in junior and senior high schools. God made a way out for me; He indeed knows me best.
Fashion doesn’t excite me as much as books and movies do. Even choosing a style for my seamstress to design my fabric, I find mentally draining. Yeah, I know; I’m weird.
But growing my food, I’d like to do that. I love to plant vegetables and watch them germinate and grow. Watering them, pulling out weeds and waiting for them to grow and bear fruits teach me how hard work and patience are what it takes to succeed at any task. I love the smell of the soil when it rains and I find the sight of plants glowing in the sunlight absolutely fascinating and beautiful. Maybe I will keep a garden in my future house.
I know most ladies wouldn’t want to have their pretty nails dirty but I guess, I’m not your conventional kind of lady. I appreciate the people who are fashionably creative to design and produce attires. They spare the likes of me the trouble of having to rack our brains in vain.
So I’d go for growing my own food. Now that they are stories of market women going in for under-ripe food products and soaking them in some chemicals just to give them the right ripening color compared to other horror tales, it would be safe to eat what you grow, right? They say organic food is the best, don’t they? I tend to agree.
So what is your take on this? Be your own tailor or food producer and why? Kindly share your thoughts. Always a pleasure to read your opinions. Have a beautiful day.

lol…I would love to grow my food as well. Besides the fact that I will make some elder people clothing, I like the idea of knowing exactly where my food comes from, especially with all the horror stories surrounding food these days

I would sew my own clothes. Growing my own food takes patience, discipline, time, love, labor that I’m hojestly, too lazy to give. And I can’t trust anything that says organic in it nowadays anyways.

I guess I’ll be in the garden, as I don’t know the first thing about sewing. If you can’t hot glue it, I’m out! lol

I’m a gardener. I love being outside and getting my hands dirty, but I also love fashion too. I’ve always wanted to make my own clothes. Two of my daughters can actually sew pretty well….they love making pillows, so I hope to pick up some sewing skills from them.

I’ve always liked how interactive your posts are! I’d rather grow my own food. As a child, I took pleasure in watching many things grow. The process was pure happiness. As an adult, I only think of all the excuses in the world to not do it. Nice one Josey.

I think I can do both. I’m not good with my hands but I can create designs. And growing is fun, tried it anytime I went to villages. I love both

Wow. Looks like everyone is growing their own food but I would definitely sew my own clothes. I know nothing about gardening!

I know you’d go in for sewing because of your love for fashion. I was actually surprised most people opted for gardening too but what do we know, right? Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Elorm ☺

I’m a bit stuck with this one because I love both and I’m good at both. But I’d choose to grow my own food. It’s a very good thing and helps to make you relaxed and also grants a sense of fulfilment when the crop is ripe and ready to be harvested. You should see the fresh and juicy tomatoes I harvested from our backyard garden this week. ☺

I would definitely grow my own food. I think it would be fun starting a garden and getting to see everything grow. Also, I rather be outside seeing God’s creations than to be inside getting poked with a needle 🙂
