As humanly flawed as we are;
Mistakes are expected to be made;
Some may be seen as totally unacceptable;
And could be harshly punished for them;
And others can be conveniently glossed over;
With a word of warning not to be repeated;
As much as mistakes are inevitable to commit;
None is met with approval;
We are expected to know what’s right and wrong;
To always stick with the former and avoid the latter;
But we all fall short;
We all have to learn in one way or the other;
That all that glitters is not gold;
And beautiful roses have thorns;
All mistakes have consequences;
Some not that substantive;
But still have effects nonetheless;
Others can be life-changing;
Alter one’s course of life completely;
With little or no chance for a do-over;
When we get a question wrong in an assignment;
We may get the chance to correct it;
But it doesn’t change the grade;
It is even more real in life;
A situation handled poorly between people;
Can lead to reconciliation later on;
But the relationship itself;
Might never be the same again;
We make mistakes to learn lessons from them;
And not to be repeated over and over again;
The fact that the word ‘sorry’ exists;
To make up for the wrong we do to others;
Doesn’t mean we should deliberately keep hurting people;
Because we don’t pay to use the word;
Just as once bitten, twice shy;
An error committed twice is no longer a mistake;
And may not be forgiven as easily;
As when it was made the first time;
Thank God for second chances;
That He has the power to turn around
Unfortunate events to have good endings;
Thank God that His grace abounds;
For every wrong we make;
And He doesn’t hold us to our mistakes;
When we own up to them and ask for pardon;
That He doesn’t hold grudges like us;
Who sometimes claim to have let go;
But still holding on to it so we can exact revenge;
When they least expect it;
But we should we keep on doing wrong;
So God’s grace would continue to abound?
Of course not!
The same way, when your offences;
Against a friend, colleague, spouse or relative;
Are forgiven;
It doesn’t mean go ahead and do it again;
It means grow up and be wise;
Because the next time;
It might not be forgiven;
And you’d have yourself to blame.
