Pursuit of Perfection

(c) theodysseyonline.com

Perfection is a fantasy;

Flawed is realistic;

Perfection is idealistic;

To err is expected;

Perfection is the desired standard;

But many people fall short;

Perfection may be accomplished;

By executing a task;

Sowing a dress;

Cooking a meal;

Or perhaps speaking a language;

But how come it seems

Perfection and being human

Are mutually exclusive?

By now every adult can tell;

That life can’t be altogether perfect;

That glamorous doesn’t necessarily

Spell out happy;

That a neat porch and lawn

And well decorated house;

Don’t guarantee a peaceful home;

Snapshots of fun moments;

Can’t generalize one’s life status;

So what’s the point;

Of envying someone’s seemingly ‘perfect’ life

Because his/her social timeline appears so?

We were born broken;

Flawed from the first cry;

Attempting to fix us;

With human therapy and other alternatives;

Would never make us perfect;

But those who know God;

Know how perfect He is;

And that in Him;

Perfection is possible;

Every day with Him;

Is perfection in progress;

Because the more we know Him;

The more we become like Him;

In Him is life forevermore;

Without Him is death for sure;

So you want to be perfect?

Don’t seek it out in the world;

Nor within you;

Cause it’s a futile search;

But seek God first;

And He’ll show you

A dimension of perfection;

You never thought possible.
