He came from the north of the city;

Where nothing significant ever happened;

Dangerous. Rogue. Volatile.

Where thieves and drug pushers

With homewreckers and liars

Were parents to the slow and stubborn;

Good-for-nothing was the synonym for the northerners;

But could only be whispered behind their backs;

For fear of being rendered incapacitated;

She hailed from the south side;

Where the roads were tarred and the street lights worked;

Born to the elites’ network and raised to be one;

Taught to associate with her kind;

So as not to contaminate the ‘bloodline’;

It made sense as it implied

That all the wealth acquired rightfully and otherwise;

Would circulate in the south;

Held on to and watched over with the eagle’s eye;

Whenever the southern ‘princess’ met the northern ‘slum dog’;

She thought, “Here comes the sleaze”;

And he thought, “Here she comes on her high horse”;

But one day the typical Hollywood encounter happened;

The world as they knew it was about to change;

The scales on their eyes threatening to fall;

Perceptions melted away;

Leaving the heart stripped bare;

To make the decision devoid of all barriers;

But both worlds would not hear of it;

Her parents called him a gold digger;

His parents called her a rich bully;

They were ready to go to war;

Each party winning the east and west as an ally;

But the diametric lovers stood at the center;

The lady from the south threatening to put her life on the line;

The man from the north not in the position to bargain;

Since his life meant nothing…even to his own;

The south realizing they had more to lose;

Dropped their threats, insults and weapons;

The north grateful for the turn of events;

Knowing very well they didn’t stand a chance;

They asked for a truce;

With the lady as the front-liner;

And the man as the humble pie;

Out of love for their own, the south gave in;

And the compass lived happily ever after.
