K for Knowing me Knowing you (Kiss😘 Kiss😘)

To know someone is to be familiar or acquainted with a person as defined by WordWeb. It sometimes becomes a matter of pride to say you know someone personally especially to people who only know of him and thus can only discuss him as ‘fans’ of some sort. Everyone has the right to keep to himself so to get to know someone intimately is actually a privilege; one that should not be taken for granted.

The level of intimate knowledge of someone is dependent on how much tolerance the other party allowed for that to happen in the first place. It is said that one cannot know someone completely no matter how close they are. There’s always a part of a person concealed from everyone even his own parents. And it is not necessarily because there are dark secrets being harbored but it all boils down to trust; whether one can confidently trust another to accept him regardless of whatever demons he  might be battling with.

Everyone has two profiles: the public and the private one. The public one is published on the various social media accounts and what we usually tell others as we introduce ourselves. Very brief, straight-forward and well-polished. The private one is…well, private. Classified which requires security clearance at each level. To get to really know someone, some walls have to be climbed over; others have to be broken down. Some doors may be opened willingly, others might be out of bounds forever. But it is a great experience to get to know someone beyond the surface, the public profile that everyone knows.

But to get to know someone, one must allow himself to be known as well. It is a give-and-take affair. When one lowers his wall, he expects the other to do same. It is not easy to bare your feelings (of fear, attraction etc.) and allow yourself to be vulnerable. But you can’t fully be sure that someone really appreciates and accepts you for who you are without showing him the full picture. The more of yourself you keep hidden, the less authentic you become and fake things are known not to last.

Given the privilege to know someone is a test of your trustworthiness and loyalty to be a friend. Abuse it and you lose her forever. Cherish it and you’d be counted as one of a kind. I have had the honor of getting to know some amazing people on a deeper level and it has taught me a lot. I do have difficulties bringing down my walls to let others in because I don’t feel comfortable having to be vulnerable. But I have resolved to learn.

And to all the amazing people I’ve come to know in the blogging community, accept my kisses (mwuah!😘). You’ve enriched my life in ways I could never imagined by reading your insightful posts and our interactions have kept me from feeling lonely even when I’m alone. Your comments always bring smiles on my face. So I dedicate this post to you all. Lots of kisses from me to you.😘😘😘

When someone lets you into his/her private world, respect it and don’t take it for granted. For by getting to know a person, you discover yourself in the process. Discover carefully.
