Would You Rather #24: Receive Cash or Gifts on your Birthday?

Happy birthday to everyone reading this celebrating his or her birthday today.  You are really appreciated for following, liking and commenting on the posts. You make Joseyphina’s World as interesting as it is. I pray God grants your heart desire and turns your life around for the better.

Every day is someone’s birthday which means it’s special day for someone somewhere in the world. It’s the day your family and friends celebrate your life and show gratitude for your presence in their lives. It’s the only day in the year that you are allowed to be selfish. It is your day and you have the right to request for whatever you wish for.

Unfortunately, celebrating birthdays isn’t a tradition that is looked forward to in all families. Sometimes the birthday boy and girl would have to remind the family about it and all they get in response is, “Oh really? Happy birthday then. So what are you giving us?” Oh really? Who should be expecting gifts, the celebrant or the family and friends?

Birthdays are not a big deal in my family. It’s just another day; you just have to be extra grateful for the gift of life and the grace to have another year added to your years.

I believe some birthdays are more memorable than others because of the quality of time spent with people who matter. And the thoughtful gifts by family and friends are treasured because they hold sentimental value. Every birthday celebrant looks forward to the gifts and well wishes he/she would receive on such a special day.

Cash or gifts? Well, it’s a well-known fact that the economic hardship has come to stay and that is why most couples prefer cash gifts to material ones especially on their wedding day to help them defray certain costs and help them settle more comfortably. But for birthdays, apart from family relatives who are known to have generous pockets, most people just settle for gifts to give to birthday celebrants.

Since birthdays are more of having memorable moments, I think I’d go for gifts. This way, I’d always remember the one who was thoughtful enough to give me something which will last longer than money which would be spent and forgotten.  I am not particularly wowed by money so I think I would be more touched if I were to receive a gift than cash on such a special day like my birthday.

Are you a cash or gift person? What would you appreciate more on your birthday and why? It’s always a pleasure to read your thoughts!

Give me a gift. Then a memory is created.
    Cash, I would quickly forget!

Well if you want to give me an astronomically large bit of money, then by all means do. However birthdays just aren’t that big of a deal to me. I usually just call my Momma and let her know I appreciate her going through 14 hours of hard labor to give me life! lol I appreciate a handmade gift though. Those are the best. My daughter in law always makes me a bracelet for my birthday from my grandson and I think of them each time I wear them.

I would definitely prefer cash, if it’s of equal or greater value than the intended gift. Then I can get myself what I really want, which may not be a physical gift but a service of a treat…or which could offset some expenses and earn me some free time or peace of mind. People often miss the mark with gifts, and I’m not one to return gifts…

    Cheers x

I think I’m a gift person. Most people don’t know what I like for a gift so I get fascinated watching people guess. I don’t know but money seems too boring and as if there was no thought in it.

I prefer gifts. Not edible or perishable ones though. Something that I can keep and look back on.

  7. Gifts, for sure. Cash is so impersonal. I don’t care if the gift is homemade or only cost $2. If it’s something that made you think of me, I love it.
