#DailyPost: Give your newer sisters and brothers-in-WordPress one piece of advice based on your experiences in blogging.
First of all, I want to say a big welcome to the new entrants of the ever-growing, blooming WordPress community. Here, we are not competitors, we are more than friends; we are like a family from all over the world. With different themes and personalities, but we all complement one another to create a rich society of soul-satisfying literature.
If you have decided to become a blogger, it is probably because you feel a need to share something that is dear to your heart. Be they musings or rantings on how your societal leaders may be making or breaking your homeland, fiction or non-fiction stories or inspirational pieces, they are the written voices of something you deem important.
Although I’m not that old in WordPress family (a little over 4 years), I believe I can offer some friendly blogging counsel. There’s a lot to say but I’ll sum it all up with: BE YOURSELF and DON’T FORGET YOUR CALLING.
To survive in a big family like WordPress, you have to stand out; in fact you have to be outstanding. And it could be quite a struggle for a newbie having to attract readers especially when it seems the WordPress Queens and Godfathers are getting all the attention with the enviable many likes and comments on their sites. But instead of losing the zeal and giving up along the way, it should encourage you to put in much more effort.
Everything great takes time. And if you are not patient in growing your audience, you’ll end before you even start. Since WordPress is a community and not a collection of islands, you have to find time and reach out to others. By liking, following and commenting on their blogs, you get yourself noticed. You also get new ideas for your own site. Although it is good to absorb ideas from others, it is advisable you find your own voice and make it stronger lest yours gets drowned out due to lack of originality.
Every member has a specialty or rather a number of specialties. As you find your feet and grow in the community, don’t forget your inspiration for starting your blog in the first place. Take time to discover what your specialty is and build on it. You don’t have to unnecessarily loud or controversial and profane to become popular on WordPress. Be sure to make sense with each post and let people get to know and understand you better with each post you publish.
As for the numbers, they will come if you work hard and become consistent. There is a time for everything. It might be later than sooner but you take your time, you will be duly rewarded. Blogging is a journey with its ups and downs; ranging from writer’s blocks to temporary disinterest but choose to enjoy every bit of it. They all will help you become a better blogger and person.
Once again, I welcome you to the family! Whenever you feel lonely or depressed in your real life, don’t hesitate to get in touch with someone in this virtual world. Someone will definitely cheer you up with his/her piece. And when you are happy, don’t forget to share with the rest of us!
