As the year ends, we pick up our notepads and scribble down our goals and aspirations;
As if a to-do-list is our ticket to enter the coming New Year;
But when the excitement of having crossed over begins to fade away;
So does our resolve to follow through with our resolutions;
Procrastination sets in; making us think twelve months is long enough
So there’s no need to start right from day one.
For some of us, a new year is a new slate;
To leave the past behind us and start afresh;
But in case it hasn’t dawned on you; you’re not getting any longer;
Oh yes, you can start all over but time isn’t waiting for you;
You can’t press the refresh button with time;
Once gone, it’s lost forever.
Some resolutions need time to become realities;
Others, not so much;
But if you’re still struggling to finish what you started five years ago;
Then perhaps a change in perspective is what you need;
A new year with fresh resolutions doesn’t mean last year didn’t happen;
It is only a chance to correct wrongs and finish what you started.
So as you turn over a new page and start scribbling down goals again,
Remember you cannot turn back the hands of time;
The best you can do is to make the best out of this new opportunity;
You are older than you were same time last year holding the same very pen;
So make it a point to take your decisions seriously;
Because you don’t know for sure if you would be around same time next year.
