Love Without Eyes S2 Chapter Four

“Lucia! Good to see you, honey,” Mrs. Bourbon said as she hugged her daughter-in-law.

“Thanks for taking time to see me, ma’am.”

“Oh come on, you’re family now. Family always comes first. I was preparing something in the kitchen. Care to join me there?”

“Sure.” Lucia sat down and Mrs. Bourbon served her with a glass of juice.

“Thanks,” Lucia said and sipped gratefully.

“Has he called you?” Lucia inquired.

“Ted? Of course, he has. He calls frequently if you care to know.”

“Did he say anything about me?” Mrs. Bourbon smiled.

“I asked of you two and he said you two were fine.” Lucia nodded and sipped. She noticed she was looking intently at her.

“My mom told you, didn’t she?”

“Of your marriage only signed on paper but not in blood? Yes she did.”

“You’re not going to scold me too, are you?”

“Oh I was planning on it but I’m sure your mother has done a good job at that already.”

“She has.”

“Then I’ll let it slide…for now.” They both chuckled.

“He’s going to leave me, isn’t he?” Lucia asked nervously.

“What? Why would you think that?”

“He can’t even stand the sound of my voice. I’m sure he’s regretting marrying me.”

“Come on, don’t be silly. He might be upset but he still loves you. He’s not leaving you.”

“I need your help. You know him better than I do. What can I do to make him look at me again?”

“I’m now more convinced than ever that you’re the right woman for my son. For you to put your pride aside and come to me for help, that takes a good heart and character.”

“Well, I’m out of options. I’m afraid of ending my marriage before it even got started.” Mrs. Bourbon stirred her pot and joined her at the table.

“What bothers him most?”

“He’s hurt that I ruined our first memory of being together. I tried getting to him but he said that wasn’t how it wanted our first night to be.”

“So recreate the scene then.”

“What do you mean?”

“Tell me; how far will you go to salvage your marriage?”

“All the way,” Lucia said determinedly. Mrs. Bourbon smiled knowingly.

Ted sat down for breakfast the next morning. Lucia walked past him carrying two boxes.

“Good morning!” She greeted.

“Good morning; do you need a hand with that?”

“No thanks; I’m good.” She went outside and came back.

“Going to your dad’s office today?” He asked.

“Nope; I’m going to fix our marriage,” she said with a hopeful smile.

“You’re not going for therapy, are you?”

“Oh no, I don’t think we’re there yet, are we honey? I doubt I’d make it to the office today. Hope you can manage today without me,” she said.

“Sure.”

“I’ll see you later,” she said and kissed his cheek.

“Hey,” he said, holding her hand, “about what I said yesterday…about me getting it elsewhere…I wanted you to know I didn’t mean that. It was mean and below the belt and I’m sorry. Just wanted you to know that,” he apologized. Lucia smiled.

“Thanks honey; that really makes me feel better.” Lucia pulled his cheeks.

“All the best with fixing our marriage,” Ted said, sipping his tea.

“Thanks!” She left the house.

Ted entered Dr. Grant’s office.

“Bourbon! Good to see you,” he said as they shook hands.

“I just wish they were under different circumstances.”

“Same here.” Ted sat down. Dr. Grant handed him an envelope. Ted took it and opened it. He sighed and put the sheet of paper back in the envelope.

“She’s pregnant, isn’t she?” He nodded, dropping it on the table.

“So what are you going to do?”

“I’m going to demand for a paternity test.”

“This soon? I would advise against that.”

“The sooner I can put this headache behind me, the earlier I can move on and fix things with Lucia,” Ted said.

“Fix things? How are you two doing?”

“Getting married despite the news of a possible unborn bastard, what do you think?”

“I don’t envy you, man. Send her my regards. “

“Sure. I’ll take my leave now.”

“Take care of yourself, Ted.”

“You too, doctor; don’t overwork yourself.”

“Hear who’s talking!” They both chuckled and he left the office.

Ted drove back to the office in deep thought. He was hoping Anita’s pregnancy was just a hoax. A partial reason why he had avoided any physical contact with Lucia since their wedding was because he was too distracted with this whole baby drama with Anita. He thought it unfair to pretend that he was perfectly fine and happy with Lucia when all he could think about was how to make this whole mess disappear. A part of him was grateful that they didn’t consummate their marriage that night. It would have ended in disaster for sure. He has to come clean with Lucia; tell her how this was affecting him as well. And then maybe, they could both forget about it for a while and spend some quality time together. He smiled at the thought.

Ted returned home later in the evening but Lucia was not around. He took a shower and entered the bedroom to find his phone ringing. He took it.

“Hey, where are you? I was about to call you. Are you okay?” He asked.

“Um…yeah. Are you at home?”

“Yeah, just came out of the shower. Are you on your way home? We really need to talk.”

“Sure; but I’m at the Glover Hotel…”

“Glover Hotel? Where we spent our wedding night? What are you doing there?”

“I was called by one of their staff. Something about some payment issues.”

“Payment? Have you called my mum? I’m sure she can straighten it out.”

“Yeah, I called but she’s not picking up. Could you come over? I’m sure we can sort this out together.”

“Sure; I’ll be right there. See you.” The line went dead.

“Okay; we have about 45 minutes before he gets here,” Lucia said.

Ted arrived at the hotel. A car familiar to him sped away as he got out of his. He entered the hotel. When he got to the front desk, he was given a note. It was from Lucia. He entered the elevator. He knocked on door 309. He realized the door was left slightly opened. He pushed it wide open and entered.

“Lucia?” He called out as he closed the door. He walked around the suite. Memories of what happened the last time they were here came to mind.

“Hi.” He turned. It was Lucia.

“Wh…” He was lost for words. Lucia chuckled. She wasn’t Lucia Baker, the girl he had proposed to. She was the Lucia Monique Bourbon, his new bride…once again. She walked towards him.

“What made you think of this?” He asked when he found his voice.

“You said you wanted our first time together to be special and I ruined it so I asked for a little help. And we came up with recreating the scene, like rewinding the tape,” Lucia said, holding his hands.

“We? Like…my mother?” She nodded with a giggle.

“Aha! I thought I saw her car speed away when I got here. Wow…it looks just like it did the last time,” Ted said, overwhelmed, taking in the view.

“I am sorry for being inconsiderate. We never got intimate before we got married and I didn’t really ask you whether you were okay with that. Then I left and pushed Anita your way…”

“Shush…I think you’re talking too much. Don’t ruin the moment for the second time,” Ted whispered, brushing his thumb across her lips.

“I want to say this: Can we press the refresh button? Start all over….like we just got married?”

“Then you should have told me to wear my tux,” Ted said. They both chuckled. He kissed her forehead.

“I’ve something to say too. I want you to know that you weren’t the only one being distracted with this whole Anita issue. So I don’t blame you for withholding yourself. I wanted time alone too.”

“Truce?” Lucia asked. He nodded.

“After tonight, we’re going to see through this baby issue together.”

“Yeah, she’s pregnant,” Ted blurted out. Lucia’s countenance fell.

“Hey, don’t. It still doesn’t mean anything. Right now, I just want to do something I’ve been dreaming of since I watched my first romantic comedy,” Ted said.

“Oh yeah, what is that?” He zipped down her wedding dress.

“Doing this.” They both smiled and kissed. Lucia wrapped her arms around her husband. She chuckled when he carried her onto the bed. He looked into her eyes.

“I love you, wifey.”

“I love you too, hubby.” She moaned into his kiss.
