New Year, New Attitude

We live in a world where people can hardly tell what is right from what is wrong, where an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is strongly adhered to and forgiveness is hardly an option.

To be like everyone else, you’d have to live like everyone else but you were not born to be ordinary; where your presence doesn’t make a difference and your absence is not felt anywhere. In this scenario, you’d simply be existing not living.

But you and I were called to be set apart-to live lives astonishingly exceptional that would make people wonder what kind of person we are.

To live a Christ-like life, you’d have to put away every philosophy the world preaches and abide solely by the principles laid down by the Bible. Whereas in the world, we give to people with an expectation to gain it back (sometimes with interest) but in God, you’re expected to give with no such intentions.

Most of the time, we unconsciously invest in people’s life so as to reap the benefits later. Instead of doing onto others exactly how they treated you, God says we should repay evil with good, bless those who curse us and pray for those who persecute us. This would sound like nonsense to someone who doesn’t know our God but to prove to be SET APART, you’d have to live like you’re not of this world.

No matter the situation, you should ask yourself “What would Jesus have me do?” When you’re frustrated in life, instead of turning to drugs, alcohol and promiscuity, turn to God in prayer.
When you’re mistreated at work or at school, don’t retaliate by being rude. Show them maturity by putting it behind you and treating them with respect. They would still be nasty but your unexpected counter-behavior will get them thinking. With time, they will warm up to you because they want to be around you.

Be exceptional this year. Let the world see the Light in you. Shine in your little corner and you’ll drive away thick darkness from the ones around you.

This little light of mine,
I’m going to let it shine…
