Check Your Back Door…

Sometimes a half-opened door goes unnoticed….

We live in a world with different people who live by diverse beliefs and philosophies which are often contradictory and sometimes unbelievable. But to ensure that we can co-exist, we would have to respect the views of one another no matter how bizarre they may sound. As Christians, we sometimes face the challenge of having to co-exist with unbelievers as well as doubled-standard Christians, of course.

Most of us find it difficult to find the bridge between going out into the world to rescue the lost and not getting ourselves unequally yoked together with unbelievers. We either find ourselves going all out which leads us to compromise our values and principles in order to please the people of the world or we isolate ourselves from the world so as not to get contaminated from the virus of the pleasures of sin. The result of doing the latter is pushing others away from us with our judgmental looks and whispers because they are not like us.

Jesus with the people we love to despise…

We sometimes tend to forget that we are tagged to be ambassadors of Christ who was known on earth to be the Friend of sinners. That doesn’t mean we have to let our guard down when we find ourselves around people who do not live according to God’s standards. That is why Jesus could sit down and dine with tax collectors and other people whom the Pharisees viewed as ‘sinners.’

It’s all about knowing thyself.

Know your weaknesses and thus how to flee from their temptations.

Little bits of prejudice against people and their way of life unconsciously make up loopholes in our hearts for the enemy to come in and destroy us. As my friend rightly said, ‘You may have the Blood of the Lamb on your front door which protects you from the attacks of the enemy but have you checked your back door?” You may not know but your seemingly self-righteous acts could have left your back door open enough for the enemy to slip in and cause serious damage.

This is a personal struggle. So examine yourself and find out where you stand on the issue: are you compromising your stance or are you being judgmental and hypocritical at the same time? Ask God for grace to help you deal with that and give you the wisdom on how to win the lost over to the Lord without losing yourself in the process.
