Mocking Puppets

He never stops mocking…

With each strike on His back, the enemy mocked;
And with each inch the nail bore into His palms, he laughed;
Spiting Him for sacrificing Himself for mankind;
But He knew we were worth the cost.

Now He has paid the price for our sins and we are saved. The devil has been defeated. But that doesn’t stop him from pointing accusing fingers at us whenever we falter. He is the very first to point out to God how unfaithful we are and how undeserving we are of His abundant grace.

The season of Easter just passed away and as I watched the Passion of the Christ again for the nth time, I actually felt that Jesus was being crucified all over again. Christians of the 21st century have relaxed so much that we sometimes take the grace of God for granted. We sin, ask for pardon and sin again. Why, because we believe grace abounds. Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid! Romans 6:1-2 (KJV)

What I learned from this recent past Easter season is that, the more we act like dogs who return to their vomit by repeating our sins is that, we give the devil the opportunity to mock our Lord again and again for dying for ungrateful beings like us.
But Jesus in His infinite mercy continues to intercede for us, pleading, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34 (KJV)

We bless God for never running out of mercy for our sake but why should we be as the devil’s puppets to mock God unceasingly for sending His only beloved Son to die a shameful death? We owe God our lives and we shouldn’t give Him a reason to regret His precious sacrifice at Calvary.

So whenever you’re being tempted to try out a ‘little sin’, remember the enemy is ready not just to point accusing fingers at you but also a mocking finger at your Savior for dying on the cross to save you.

Instead, let’s make Jesus proud of us, shall we?
