The year is gradually coming to a close and everyone is at his wits’ end to wrap up activities and spend quality time with family and cherished friends. Students are anxious for classes to end so they can go home; parents are putting things in place to make this Christmas as memorable as ever; lovers are employing every area of their mental faculty to make this season as special as possible. This is all good because this season gives us the opportunity to make time out of our busy schedules for those who deserve them in our lives and show them how much they mean to us and how much we care.
But it is important most of all to remember the principal reason why the Christmas season is highly anticipated by all; believers or not. We celebrate this event each year to remind us that the God of the universe left His marvelous throne to dwell among us just because He loved us that much.
We should seize this occasion to gather as friends and family to thank God for keeping us alive and well; not everyone can boast of that. At least, we can boast of that in the Lord. We can each have a quiet time just to reflect on how faithful God has been to us every single day-a good way to count our blessings. Every day, week and month came with its own challenges but through it all, we survived. God took us through them all.
We may have estranged ourselves from family and friends due to work demands or some petty misunderstandings but let’s allow this season of love and grace to warm our hearts so we can reach out to them. Let’s tie up any bonds we may loosened over the months so we may be united enough to face the forthcoming year.
This season also offers us a time to fortify ourselves in prayer in preparation for next year. The uncertainties of the future brings along fear which everyone reckons with. But a renewed fortified relationship with our Lord Jesus at a time like this gives us the blessed assurance that no matter where the wind blows us, we would be safe as long as Jesus is in the boat with us.
So whiles we cut the cake, share drinks, pass meals around, exchange gifts and make portraits of family gatherings during this wonderful occasion, let’s not forget the One who is the central reason for the celebrations because without Him, there would be nothing worth celebrating.
Merry Christmas in advance, folks!
