Forgive and Let Go

You may have heard that an apple a day keeps the doctor away and laughter is medicine but permit me to recommend to you a recipe which is more efficient to keep your heart healthy. It is called forgiveness.

Whenever someone offends you and you get angry, you feel your heart get heavy and you cannot think of anything else but to find meaner ways to hurt him or her back. When anger and eventually hate begins to take the better part of you, you realize your mood turns aggressive and gloomy. No matter how hard you try, you can’t make yourself happy. You know why, because you are holding hurt in your heart. When you take offense, you feel like you’ve imprisoned someone but guess what, that someone is yourself because at the end of the day, you are the only one feeling hurt and vengeful.

If you want to be truly happy, you have to let go of any grudges you hold against people especially your family and friends. Some are living in misery by holding hurts older than their children in their hearts. Because of the grudge some men hold against their fathers since their childhood, they have ended up being bad fathers to their own children. Holding grudges are a sure way of breeding unpleasant heart conditions.
When you forgive someone, not only do you free the offender but you free yourself of imprisoning your happiness. Your spirit is lightened and your soul is set free.

I know it is not easy to forgive sometimes because the pain caused by some hurtful words uttered by people we trust is just too much to bear. No matter how little the hurt may seem, you still need grace to forgive. As the saying goes, to err is human and to forgive is to divine; so to truly let someone go, you need to ask God to help you do that. No one can ever truly forgive someone without God’s help as you should have realized by now that forgiveness isn’t a human trait but a divine one.
When someone hurts your feelings, let it out and let it go. Let him or her know that you are hurt and then forgive him. You will be amazed to find out how free your mind would be from mean and bad thoughts. You tend to live with a clean conscience. When we gave up the Christ, scorned and spat on Him, He didn’t turn around to curse us, He only asked His Father to forgive us. As His ambassadors, shouldn’t we do the same? Think about it.
You want to have a healthy heart and a peaceful mind, let go of all grudges, hurt and pain. Later, you may even laugh it off and see it as silly. That’s the beauty of life.

    That is so right, Joseyphina…

We must never forget that forgiveness (and forgetting) is paramount in walking in God’s goodness and blessing. We can’t walk in love and unforgiveness at the same time, and without love our faith won’t work at all. Besides, all of us have all been the ‘offenders’ too, against other people and against Jesus…and yet He has always forgiven us. As His ambassadors, we can do no less. Great piece, Joseyphina!

Thanks, Lester. We must live to forgive. Without forgiveness, we cannot love people enough to bring them to God. Have a nice day, Lester.
